An electric violinist plays pop, dance and rock hits live over backing tracks, through their own speaker. It’s the sound of a party: perfect for a drinks reception with a buzz, a wedding evening, or a corporate awards night. Many of our violinists play both acoustic and electric, so you can have classical music for the ceremony and party hits later on.

Prices start at £425 for the first hour, and each extra hour is from £95, including travel. One of our 2027 couples booked an hour of electric violin for their wedding for £395.

Here is Lyra, who plays acoustic, electric and LED violin:

Our violinists

Our electric violinists

  • Lyra: trained at Oxford and the Royal Academy of Music. Acoustic, electric and LED violin.
  • Celeste: plays a five-string electric violin with her own backing tracks.
  • Aurelia: acoustic and electric, and an arena tour performer.

We’ll suggest the right violinist for your venue and your music. See all our violinists.

When an electric violin works best

  • Drinks receptions with a buzz: upbeat pop that guests recognise.
  • Wedding evenings: a live set before the DJ, or playing along with them.
  • Big or noisy rooms: the speaker means the violin is heard over a crowd.
  • Corporate events: awards nights, launches and parties. See corporate violinist hire.

For the ceremony itself, most couples prefer a classic acoustic violin. Read about ceremony music.

Popular electric violin songs

Mr Brightside (The Killers), Don’t Stop Me Now (Queen), Uptown Funk, Dancing Queen (ABBA), Viva la Vida (Coldplay), Valerie, Shut Up and Dance, Titanium (David Guetta) and Levels (Avicii). See our full list of violin wedding songs.

Electric violinist questions

An acoustic violin is the traditional wooden instrument, lovely for a ceremony or a quiet reception. An electric violin plugs into a speaker and plays over backing tracks, so it’s louder and suits pop, dance and party music.

A power socket close to where they’ll play, and a little space for the speaker.

Yes, several of our violinists play both. Tell us when you enquire.

Often, yes. Many electric violinists enjoy playing along with a DJ. We’ll check with the violinist and your DJ before the day.

Not usually. Prices start at £425 for the first hour, the same as acoustic.
